How to Disable Geofencing on Lowrance HDS?
What is Geofence?
Geofencing is a technology that creates virtual boundaries, allowing an area to be divided into geozones. When a device or phone moves between these zones, it performs certain tasks depending on its location. The signal for crossing a boundary is transmitted via GPS, Wi-Fi, or mobile networks.
Geofencing is used in various devices for different purposes, such as parental control or location-based advertising.
How does Geofence work in Lowrance HDS?
In the case of Lowrance HDS, geofencing restricts the functionality of the device when it moves outside a predefined zone (North America). The location is determined via GPS, and if the device is detected outside this region, certain limitations are activated.
This restriction was implemented to allow Lowrance’s subsidiaries outside North America to set higher prices in certain markets, such as Europe, compared to the U.S.
